SOS DOGS...
Here are some of our SOS woofa's ( The Pocket Money Gang) and SOS Haven Rehab dogs. The Sanctuary offers 'Last Chance' spaces 'Safe Havens' to dogs who would otherwise be put to sleep. We work with them, rehabilitate and help thier rescues to rehome them when they are ready. We also take in unfunded pound dogs who would otherwise be dead today had we not provided them with a safe space and rescue back up and we fund raise ourselves to cover the costs for these dogs which as you can imagine are hefty. These dogs have a safe, happy, loving place here with us where they are given a last chance....Sanctuary is not just a word here at Birkett~Smith...it's a reality.
You can read the SOS diaries and follow the progress of these very special animals in our blog..and if you would like further information or to sponsor a sanctuary dog or one of the SOS Woofa's Pocket Money Gang; Soza, Chloe or Noel please click here:

Dexter (SOS Woofa)Meet Dexter, an american bulldog built like a tank but he loves cuddles and human interaction. He was taken into NFAR Rescue after living with a lovely older lady but did not get to see the big wide woofa world much and so has poor lead understanding and no dog communication skills. Dexter will remain with us forever and we love him x | Navi (SOS Rehab)Navi has not had an easy time and she needed sanctuary, peace and space. But Navi needed a very special place where she could be given a last chance, without that last chance, Navi's time would have run out despite the best efforts of the rescue that originally saved her. |

Keisha (SOS Rehab)Keisha is an Akita/Sharpei Cross. She needs socialisation help with all animals including dogs and some basic training and assessment . She loves people but being a big dog can be overpowering so after some Rehab she'll be looking for a new family. Her and Navi have become BFF's! | Charlie (SOS Rehab)Little Charlie has been in foster for about a year and is fear reactive and although improving under the great care of Tracie Gledhill he needs a one on one environment for a while in order to be the boy we know he can be. |
Noel (SOS Woofa)His story is a short but sad one. No one knows his background other than he was unwanted and may have some behavioural issues. He was saved from the pound where he was due to be PTS. Noel is with us for assessment and hopefully to eventually get his forever home. | Danny (SOS Rehab)Meet Danny, he is an SOS Rehab boy. He started as a poundie, very human scared and was saved by Loving Homes Dog Rescue. He's been in foster and really struggled with his human fear and anxiety. So Danny Boy is here to re learn human trust and interaction, very slowly and then when we have managed to reinstall a little faith we can build from there. He's settled well. |
Mia (SOS Rehab)Meet little Mia...she is spending some time with us before she goes back into a specialised place in the rescue system. She has fear aggression generally and struggles with adapting into the home environment. She went through 4 homes in a number of weeks on leaving the pound. She was saved by the lovely Cathy Holding and we are giving her a new page and a new start. | Benson (SOS Rehab)Here's the gorgeous Benson...a lovely lad who was really struggling with life and found it hard to cope with everyday things so he is here for some SOS love and time to chillax and start over. |
Ruby (SOS woofa)Ruby was going to be put to sleep. She's a 6m staff pup, good with children, dogs and cats; the perfect little pup but her owners had tried to have her PTS twice. She could not get a foster or a rescue space and was bouncing all over FB until Joy offered her a space. She has a leaky bladder and needs an operation. She is being fostered here until she has recovered and a suitable home can be found for her. | Jasper (SOS Rehab)The stunning Jasper is an SOS Rommie. He has been in a few fosters since coming to the UK and is not adjusting too well to domestic life. He has human fear and is dog reactive. He needs to start over with us humans and have a clean page to very slowly build his trust. |
Chloe (SOS Woofa)Chloe is a 4 year old Dogue De Bordeaux. Due to reaction issues she was bounced around a bit and needed the peace, space and expertise of the sanctuary. | Soza (SOS Woofa)Soza is around 17 months old, he spent the first 6 months of his life living in a drugs den where he was taught to attack and kill cats and dogs...he was beaten and used as a bait dog for 6 hellish months. |
Harry (SOS Rehab)SOS Haven Woofa ready to go onto the next leg of his journey. He is 6 years old and is waiting for that one in a thousand amazing home with Spaniel experience. He needs to be the only dog, no children or cats etc. This boy is energetic, yet polite. He adores ball games, walks and generally being out and about. He is dying to find his home with that special family. UPDATE: Harry has a home! |
"Amazing is a word that comes to mind for Joy and her crew!!! xx"
